Developing my GAME Plan

After reviewing the NETS-s I feel very comfortable with the standards. I feel as though I am qualified to teach students about technology and how to use technology to develop creativity. The first standard that I do not feel as comfortable with would be 4. Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility, I do not know all of the proper laws about the internet and copy right. The second standard that I am not very comfortable with would be 3. Model Digital-Age Work and Learning because I know there is still some software out there that my students know more about than me. I am continuously learning but it is hard to keep up on the changing digital community.

In order to make sure I feel more comfortable with these standards I will make sure that I am a life long learner. I will make sure that I never say "I don't want to learn how to do that" because that is not being a good role model for the students. I will also take the time to look up the copy right and internet laws so I can pass along the proper information to my students. It is important that we do not give our students false information.

  1. One way that I have found helpful when it come time to staying on top of new technologies is to find a fellow teacher who des know and have them teach an in-service class. Typically if I don't know how to use some of the lattest forms of technology chances are there are other teachers that don't either. Just find someone who is and present the idea to an administrator to make it a topic during staff development days.

  2. Hi Shileah,

We are continuous role models to our students, whether in our actions or our use of technology. You are obviously a lifelong learner since you are enrolled in this degree program.

I think we need to come to a point where we are comfortable not knowing everything. I am sure there is much we can learn from our students if we ask. What do you think?

  3. Shileah,
I think you make a good point about needing to know the copyright laws and to model them correctly for our students. I have just completed a project where I stressed to my students the importance of citations - and then I had to think about the number of powerpoints I have used in the past (the ones I have created and ones others have created) that had images that weren't giving credit, etc.

I am going to be working on that as well with my students in the coming year! Good luck to you as you move forward

  4. Thank you for the great feedback, I think that all teachers need to be life long learners. I love to work with coworker to expand my horizons and learn more. Unfortunately I have a small staff and there is a time issue, we very rarely have professional development time.

  5. Shileah,
I think that it is great to do extensive research before giving information to students. I agree that it is important to not give them false information. As far as learning about using technology, this is my advice. If your students know more than you, use their expertise. Ask them to show you how to do things. This will help to reinforce what they already know and it will teach you a little as well.
